COLUMBIA — Ta’Niya Latson is officially a Lady Gamecock, eight days after announcing her commitment.

The 5-foot-8 guard spent the last three seasons at Florida State. Latson led the nation in scoring this season with 25.8 points per game. She will spend her final season with the Gamecocks and coach Dawn Staley.

“Ta’Niya has established herself in the college women’s game, and her accomplishments speak for themselves,” Staley said in a school release. “But, the beauty of her game is not just her ability to score. She has another superpower in her ability to set her teammates up to score, and that’s just a dangerous combination for opposing teams. Ta’Niya is an incredible leader and more importantly a fierce competitor. We’re honored to be part of her journey.”

Latson was the third player in ACC history to record 2,000 career points in her first three seasons and the fastest to do it at Florida State. As a junior, she shot 45% from the field, 34.3% from the 3-point line and 81.8% from the free-throw line. She's never averaged less than 21 points per game in a single season.

FSU's season ended with a loss to LSU in the second round of the NCAA tournament on March 24 with Latson scoring 30 points, pulling down seven rebounds, with four assists and two steals.

It's the first official transfer portal addition for Staley since the season ended.
