Remarkable Families Shine

Updated: Mar 4

How we admire remarkable families.

Such families are special creations. Each one is different, like glistening jewels. The internal harmony and braided strands of cohesion and utility reinforce strength uniquely.

Meet Willie Mack and Jacquelyn Duncan. They were married October 21, 1968. The high school sweethearts have been together more than 56 years.

Over the years, they did things together and made their family solid. They worked for a common goal, pooled their resources, and raised their three daughters with their values.

Their neat home, pristine cars, manicured yard and clean appearance reverberates a message that they are people of substance and character.

Willie has been the general manager of Gregory’s Boutique downtown Greenville for 48 years. He is always dressed to the tee, with a ready smile and a demeanor of professionalism to the bone.

Jacquelyn Hudson Duncan finished her career as a cosmetology administrator for Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology in Spartanburg.

Now that Jacquelyn is home, slowing down and ailing, Willie and his daughters take special care of her.

Improved medicine goes a long way in helping the family manage caregiving.  Jacquelyn is calm and active, knowing that she is loved.

Meet the three daughters and their families.

Tanya Darcia Duncan Hackney was born in 1969. Her husband, John Hackney is a senior software programmer

Tanya is a contract administrator for a hospital in North Carolina.

The Hackneys have two children: Demi Nicole Hackney, 26;   Duncan Eliyse Hackney, 30.

Tennille Duncan Springle was born in 1977. She and her sister are identical twins. Tennille is married to Dr. Kevin Springle, a pediatrician in Simpsonville.

Tennille has taught fifth grade, but now she is a youth administrator at her church.

The Springles have two children: Donovan Springle, 22, who is in medical school, and Danielle Springle,17, a senior in high school.

The other twin, Tanekia Duncan, is single and works at a popular restaurant.

Strong families are not an accident.  Everybody does their part, and they pull in unison. It is fitting that we stop and pay attention to the good examples in our midst.
