Crowds streamed down Main Street for Fall for Greenville this weekend. The weather cooperated at least for two out of three days. And Sunday was not terribly bad. We had drizzle.
Fall for Greenville is a family-friendly festival that showcases Greenville, South Carolina's food, music, and arts.
The first Fall for Greenville was held in October 1982 to introduce Greenville residents to their downtown area, which had recently been revitalized. The festival was originally called "A Taste of Greenville" but was renamed to reflect the seasonal aspect and the idea of falling in love with the city.
Now each year, the outing gives Greenville residents an excuse to strut their stuff down Main Street without dodging cars and trucks.
Selected restaurants display their assorted tasty fair for all to savor.
Eligible belles and beaus, couples and families all parade their casual wear of ripped up jeans, overalls, sweats, shorts, and other fashions from the catwalk or homespun diaphanous or sheers. This endless variety makes for fun people-watching and discovery.
See the people you know and many you don’t. Take a few pictures. See the familiar haunts downtown and glimpse at the new construction and renovations that forever keep Greenville fresh and exciting.
Munch on lamb burgers, lamb tacos, fries, pastries, cheesecakes, ice cream, French toast, and sip frappes or sweet tea among the many offerings available to tempt your palate.
This year Friday and Saturday were warm and dry; Sunday was cool and wet with drizzle. But nothing dampened the occasion or muffled the fun. Drizzle or sun, crowds would not be denied a long-awaited outing of food and fun.
Some bustled about with large umbrellas and small, others braved the rain. Some were prepared for the weather in hats and raincoats of all things. Smarty pants. Still others waited patiently under the cover of awning and overhangs.
There was no grouch in sight. There is something about a festive occasion to bring out the best in others. No word of politics or elections. What a relief!
Wet and chilled, folks then had a perfect excuse to scurry home, don pajamas, cuddle up with a good book or before the TV,
sip some hot tea or toddy, reminisce about the day and bed down.
